The Beauty of Wedding Films: From Holiday Videos to Professional Videography
When I was younger, I always thought that I would enjoy wedding photography. My first camera was a Nikon D90 which I used for nightclub photography when I was at university. However, I never felt brave enough to take on the challenge of weddings. My camera was always with on holiday though, and I used it to take lots of photos. At one point, doors were a favourite subject!
Eventually, my iPhone became so capable that it took over from my old Nikon D90 and I ended up using that for my holiday photos. Then, I realised how capable it was at filming. I found myself making travel films every time I went on holiday. I found that I loved the filming and editing process, and how it could capture and bring back memories in a way that photos just couldn't. Over time, my filmmaking and editing techniques evolved, as did my equipment. You can see how in some of the travel films below...
When I had my own wedding, we hired a videographer to capture the day. Unfortunately, we were left disappointed by the result. The clips were poorly framed, and the vows and speeches that we wanted to remember forever were not included in the final film. It was a frustrating experience, especially when the videographer then tried to charge us for the RAW footage. It turns out that charging for RAW footage is standard practice within the wedding videography world, but it’s not something I agree with.
But this experience ended up being a turning point for me. I believed that I could do a much better job myself, so I started filming weddings for people I knew who were getting married. I loved every aspect of it - the filming, the editing, and presenting the final films to the couples. Their gratitude and feedback were so rewarding that I knew I wanted to carry on doing it.
What I've learned is that a film can truly immerse you in a memory, bringing back the feelings, sounds, and emotions of the day in a way that photos cannot. The moving pictures, music, and other audio elements all work together to take you back to that special moment. And as a wedding videographer, I am honoured to be able to capture those memories for couples and their loved ones.
In fact, the thing I enjoy most about being a wedding videographer is meeting so many wonderful couples, their families, and friends. I get to be a part of their special day and witness their love story unfold before my eyes. And the best part? I get to provide them with a cherished keepsake that they will treasure for years to come.
In conclusion, whether you're an aspiring videographer or simply someone looking for a way to capture the memories of your special day, I hope this post has helped you understand the beauty and importance of wedding films - they truly are a work of art that can bring back memories in a way that photos just cannot. I believe that every couple deserves to have a beautiful wedding film that they can revisit and cherish forever.
As my business has continued to grow, I am now booking into 2025. And if anyone wants the RAW footage from their day, I will always provide it to them free of charge. Doing that enables couples to look watch parts of the day they missed because they were elsewhere, or parts they may have forgotten - a wedding day is a whirlwind when you're the main event!
